Low-budget Chrome OS netbook from Asus will cost $200
Friday, 01 April 2011 08:42
In spite of big demand for tablets, Asus is developing a $200 netbook, which is going to have Android platform or run Chrome OS. Asus is known as a budget laptop maker, so the company is good at job of this kind.
As the tablet market grows with iPad at the head, the market of netbooks shrank a bit. But Asus is not going to give up. With 10’’ screen the laptop is going to cost from 200 to 250 dollars. The launch of the gadget is appointed on June. It is going to work only on some Google OS.
Experts do not estimate the market of low-powered netbooks high, but if the price is so low it will provide the company with advantage because all tablets are sold at a price over 300 dollars.
Crome OS was released 2 years ago but netbook based on this operating system has not been launched yet by the partners of Google such as HP, Lenovo, Asus, Toshiba.
The Chrome OS needs low computing power and is meant for online data storage. It was created for peripheral gadgets, and is not intended to be an alternative to computer used for all purposes.
The iPad 2 is the cheapest at present with a price tag $500 (although one can buy earlier model even cheaper). Motorola Xoom, running on Android, costs $600. Under the circumstances if a netbook costs 2 times cheaper, then it is a sure thing to become a successful model.

IPad 2 Review
Wednesday, 30 March 2011 00:31
Among the advantages of iPad 2 are such features as dual core processor,  LCD screen of 9.7 ‘’ and battery ready to serve you for 10-hours, rear and front cameras, Bright 9.7’’ IPS. As for its disadvantages the device does not have expandable memory, the image quality is not so good and it is hard to see anything outdoors, the screen is slippery and highly reflective.  The companies producing e-book readers continue to make use of this advantage, Amazon, for instance. It still remains its competitive edge.
As for new features there are 3 enhanced features that make the device extraordinary. First of all, it is thinner with edges stylishly sloped. And it is lighter as well.
The rear and front cameras give the opportunity to use new apps, such as FaceTime video chatting.
Dual-core processor 1 Ghz makes the work two times faster.
There are only 2 connectors in the iPad 2. It has 30-pin Apple connector and features the 3.5mm headphone jack, which seems to be slanted because of the design of the gadget.
As for multimedia capabilities, Apple iPad2 is really faster therefore it is good for viewing video and for playing games.
Being not great for use in the daylight, the gadget features superb screen in the indoor conditions.
When you use the iPad 2 in the web, you will notice that pages are loaded faster.
Apparently, the iPad 2 can pull in a better Wi-Fi signal, always providing more Wi-Fi connectivity bars if we compare the device with iPad.
The rear camera is better than the front camera with VGA quality. The shots made indoors will be of low quality and have grain though the ones made in the daylight is not much better. As for the video, the results are rather good and hi dimension video (1280x720) can be made at 30 frames per second.
The iPad 2 is not so expensive as its rivals, it is easy to use and though it does not have any features that makes the device much better than others, all the same it remains to be a market leader.

Among the advantagIPad 2 Reviewes of iPad 2 are such features as dual core processor, LCD screen of 9.7‘’ and battery ready to serve you for 10-hours, rear and front cameras, Bright 9.7’’ IPS.

Amanda Hocking managed to make millions thanks to Kindle
Friday, 25 March 2011 00:00
The great success of novelist Amanda Hocking, a 26-year-old self-published author, became possible due to new approach to book publishing.
When the author wants to achieve success, the contract must be concluded with the publisher.
Hocking’s books became the author of the best-selling books on the Kindle store, and 100,000 books are sold monthly. In comparison with usual book deals, though, Hocking keeps an enormous 70 % of revenue selling her books, that is from $0.99 to $2.99 per item, while Amazon retains 30 %.
It is easy to calculate that her earnings reach about $2 million annually — an incredible sum. Actually, no other publisher in the world is able to offer her better terms at present.
Theoretically, every author is able to earn this way as well.
If one author can earn major cash without the help of a traditional publisher, then it’s possible for others to do so. Other authors also achieved success selling books online, for instance, J.A. Konrath, but the critics consider that they managed to do it because they were famous already. This will alter the situation in the publishing world.
Amanda Hocking writes about adult fantasies. She also writes about zombies and vampires with romantic touch. This theme is popular now after the Twilight success, but this is not Amanda’s concern that her books resemble this hit.

In spite of the fact that Facebook plays the main role as a social networking, Linkedin is developing fast too. There are over 100 million registered members at the website at present and 50% of them are not from the USA.
The CEO of the network Jeff Weiner said that this event became an important point for the company. The website contributes to the union of the talent and the possibility changeing people’s lives. 100 million users make a network and each one of them has some unique story. The disaster in Japan may cause later release of iPhone 5
Tuesday, 22 March 2011 16:29
The consumer electronics industry is seriously affected as the disaster in Japan took place and it will suffer from bad consequences for 3 more months, in accordance with the experts view.
The supply chain of electronics all over the world is disrupted after the catastrophe in Japan, which was entailed by tsunamis, earthquakes, and nuclear disaster as well. That refers to parts that are used for PCs, and components for Apple’s gadgets, similar to the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5, according to the opinion of specialists.
Scott Lin, the president of Acer Taiwan informed us about it. The supply chain of the computer industry is going to stay intact for 2-3 months and some enterprises are starting to accumulate the inventories of LCD panels, and this becomes the reason for temporary price inflation for PC components. For instance, adhesive, which is used in LCD panels and silicon wafers are produced for the main part in Japan and deficit of these components is felt already. To be more particular, 90% of these parts are produced by such Japanese companies as Hitachi and Sony.
Those who remember the situation after the earthquake in 1999 in Taiwan, know that the main thing is to return the power system in Japan.
Michael Yang from iSuppli was interviewed by Computerworld and told that the deficiency of memory chips needed for spartphones and tablets, is in progress because of the disrupted production in the Toshiba company. 40% of global NAND chips are manufactured there.
The deficiency of NAND flash memory can bring to postponement of the upcoming iPhone, which was planned for release in June. Thanks to the position Apple takes in the industry, there is nothing to worry about.
NAND shortage can influence other companies as well. The same problem can be referred to the production of iPad, because its 3-cell battery pack is produced in Japan too.
All try to guess now how the present situation will tell on consumer electronic purchases.

Google’s Street View shows off-road photos
Friday, 18 March 2011 14:35
Google's Street View is ready to present new pictures for us as it is travels off-road. You will be able to see gardens and parks thanks to the trike, which is pedal-powered.
Google’s fresh Street View images have been posted recently. You will not find noisy intersections on them, the pictures show mainly rustic trails and well-groomed gardens. Due to the “trike”, which goes off-road, Google’s Street View is not limited to streets any more.
The Trike was introduced in 2009. This is a customized bicycle equipped with Street View gear, in order to go to these places and embrace the castles with towers alongside with the pleasing gardens. Jeremy Pack, who works as a software engineer in Google informed us about it in a blog entry.
The Trike team was very busy making pictures throughout the globe and contributed extraordinary photos after pedaling in different countries. Therefore Google Maps became more diverse nowadays.
Google has habitually used motorized means of transport to get the 360-degree pictures that are posted then to Street View. The trike presents a tricycle with 3 wheels because its goal is to go to remote places where motor vehicles are not able to get. Among the first samples given are Château de Chenonceaux in Civray-de-Touraine in France, California gardens of the San Diego Art Institute and, the National Botanic Gardens which are located in Dublin.
Street View wants to include 360-degree pictures of different places within Google Maps. The program, which works in 7 countries now, seemed rather controversial,  and was unveiled not long ago after Street View transport received information from Wi-Fi networks. Google expressed regret and has established that the breaches were unintentional. In spite of it some countries,  as well as the U.S.A, started investigating the work of  Google’s Street View. Israel also said in recent times that it was conducting work with Google to let Street View transport to take pictures of its streets regardless of security concerns.

Human-shaped mobile phones
Tuesday, 15 March 2011 19:43
The power of imagination does not have boundaries. This was proved again by the Japanese scientists. Researchers from Japan have designed a mobile phone which has a form of a naked doll without gender and when it is touched, it seems to people that they touch human skin.
Science is going forward, but is it necessary for people to have a human-shaped phone? The researchers working in the Osaka University made an announcement about the creation of a human-shaped mobile which feels like human skin as it has a coating of this kind. As the producers said the main aim was to let people “feel closer” to each other when they are separated by the distance. This is even more surprising for us as we know that people in Japan do not touch faces of each other during the communication.
The device was described as revolutionary. The prototype is a little more sizable than the hand of the person. The speaker is located in the head of the genderless doll. One can see LED light in the chest, which has a function to inform users about standby mode or when it is used.
Upcoming iterations of the gadget are going to possess voice recognition, image recognition therefore your mobile phone will know your appearance and your voice. It is planned that the gadget will appear on sale during next 5 years. The idea is definitely fun.

People feel good thanks to Facebook
Monday, 14 March 2011 16:37
If you have blues, there is a surefire remedy for you – the update of your profile in the social network Facebook. We often hear about Facebook threatening the privacy of users and it seems to us that this is the cause of tension, but we seldom hear good news about this resource and the positive consequences of Mark Zuckerberg’s product. According to the new study Facebook still has an advantage. People start feeling better about themselves when they use it.
The study was performed by the experts from Cornell University and it has discovered that Facebook profile works like a mirror for people in which they are able to see themselves in the most favorable light and this makes them feel confident.
The research participants were 63 students, who sat in front of the computers. Some computers showed profiles on Facebook, others were switched off and some students sat in front of the mirrors. The students with computers were allowed to open only their profile page and the content which is connected with it.
After this test the students were asked to access their self-esteem. The results happened to be unpredictable. Students who edited and updated their Facebook profile showed the best result, that is to say the biggest boost of self-esteem. Students with mirrors did not show such high results as mirrors show us who we really are and this tells negatively on self-esteem. The person is rarely satisfied with the way he looks.
Jeffrey Hancock, the professor from Cornell University said in the press-release that the result of the research has nothing to do with deception, but it is rather a positive aspect of oneself.

If you have blufacebook_logoes, there is a surefire remedy for you – the update of your profile in the social network Facebook.

MyBlogLog is the one more Yahoo victim
Sunday, 13 March 2011 11:55
Yahoo has reported that it is going to close MyBlogLog in May. The event is going to take place on May 24.
Yahoo is closing one more online service that belongs to the company in the effort to reduce expenses and concentrate on its business essentials: Yahoo sent a message to the users of the service, which says about the closure of MyBlogLog and the date appointed for it – May, 24, 2011. Actually, this is not a big surprise because the MyBlogLog was included into the list of the services, Yahoo reported to be expected to “sunset” at the end of the last year. Those users who have paid for the MyBlogLog services after the May 24, which is a shutdown date, are going to get refunds from the owner.
In 2007 Yahoo paid 10 million dollars for MyBlogLog. The idea of this service was to give blog owners an opportunity to introduce the community feature to its resources, alleviating discussion and user involvement and, certainly, page hits. At the point of the purchase (when Yahoo bought MyBlogLog), over 45,000 blogs used the service. Now blogs are more prone to tap into big social networks such as FaceBook, Twitter and etc. more than rolling the services of their own.
Among the services of Yahoo in the state of decline you can find as well AltaVista, which ruled the web prior to Google coming), Yahoo Buzz, Yahoo Bookmarks, Yahoo Picks, in addition to the delicio.us, which is a bookmarking service. Yahoo even reported that it tried to find a buyer for this service.

Yahoo has reported that it is going to close MyBlogLog in May. The event is going to take place on May 24.

What was left out in Apple iPad 3?
Saturday, 12 March 2011 21:22
Apple is always impressive, but some features were still not included to the iPad 2. As  iPad 3 supposedly waiting in the wings, these changes could be present in it.
Not available at once
There is a reason for this point: out of every product launched by Apple no item appeared on shelves at once.
Lack of USB port and slot for SD card
Comparatively fresh rumors on the iPad 2 admitted that the tablet would have a USB port and a slot for SD card.
These upgrades have been long expected. Apple has always resisted to the transfer of content of non-Apple origin. Unfortunately, Apple has a reputation of a closed platform now and it reied to avoid these features on the latest iPad. It seems like we have stopped at a dock connector.
No screen changes
Some rumors started circulating concerning the screen of iPad 2. There were publications saying that Apple is going to increase the resolution twice in comparison with the original iPad.
This thing happened to the iPhone 4. There was much talk which disappeared immediately after the announcement that it is going the same display as the device before it (1024 x 768)
One appealing and for the most part groundless rumor was that the interest of Apple to Kindle technology as far as new screen is concerned. As if it was going to make it smudge-proof and that means that it is not difficult to read using the device when you are out.
No NFC
The report of Bloomberg said about Apple’s desire to introduce near-field communications technology to new iOS devices (iPhone5, iPad 2, to be more particular). Until this time, we certainly know NFC is not going to be present in the iPad 2. This technology will replace the wallets for users and this is still just a concept of the future.
These features were missed as far as we could see from the news when iPad 2 was unveiled, but it is too early to take all these things as surefire.

Flash is not necessary any longer for 63% of videos on the web
Saturday, 12 March 2011 12:37
According to the recent study about 2/3 of streaming web video can match HTML5. That means that Adobe Flash is not required any more for best part of content over the web.
Over 60 % of all streaming video in the Internet is compatible with HTML5. This information was received from  MeFeedia (via CNET), which is a video-sharing resource. During the last year, the amount of video content in the Internet that does not need Adobe Flash has increased greatly, for instance, it has grown over 50% in less than a year. Certainly, it would please Steve Jobs greatly. We all remember how the Apple CEO declared last year that Apple is not going to support Flash.
HTML5 is the latest version of HTML and the first means which will support embedding tags in webpages, letting websites embed video not applying to plug-in similar to Adobe Flash. At present, H.264 is considered to be the most well-liked fresh format. By the way, Google stopped its support in Chrome browser.
In spite of the fact that some video sites (Hulu, for instance) have refused from HTML5,  the most important players have admitted it. Among them you will find YouTube, Vimeo, Daily Motion, Blip TV. While the alteration away from Flash means that the market is more mature, a range of new formats for video make the task of posting video in the Internet more complicated.
MeFeedia also says that mobile traffic increased 5 times. Now it makes 5% in comparison with 1% it had a year ago.
MeFeedia has 30 million videos from over 33,000 video resources.

What Windows 8 will be like?
Friday, 11 March 2011 17:26
When you look at Windows 8 for the first time you can see a mild interface, but it will probably be released only in June.
The glimpse of Windows 8 appeared at first at CES, but it can’t be even called a glimpse, because Steve Ballmer demonstrated only how the operating system works on ARM processors proving that it is compatible, but he did not show how UI will look.
Win7China, a comparatively trusted blog,  covering Windows  news, unveiled supposed screenshots of the imminent Windows release. The pictures were published also by other resource - WinRumors. Luckily, Windows 8 will appear in June. But the screenshots fail to show much about the changes and an upgrade of the system. Ballmer had everything at his disposal at that time but he regarded Windows 8 a game changer, and thought it right to create some expectations.
The images remind photo viewer format of Windows 7, but some differences are evident, such as video options for an account image.
Win7China also reports that Windows 8 is advancing cloud integration and this will let you make use of a Windows Live account if you wish to have an admission to Windows 8.
The taskbar is almost similar to the one Windows 7 has, which comprises as well integration of Windows Live.  You can also find the process indicator on it, which demonstrates the progress with software and hardware.
So there is nothing astonishing for users to see, and the screenshots you are able to find in the Internet will be probably altered. You will certainly find more interesting not the images but the information Win7China shares with its readers. It informs that the OS seems to be greatly fast for installation. It will take only eight minutes to install Windows 8. Another feature mentioned in the report is the ability to reset Windows 8 in its virginal position. You will need only a couple of minutes for that.

Somebody unknown orchestrated a massive DDoS attack, which paralyzed the functionality of 10% of the sites on WordPress.com globally.
WordPress.com is a well-liked blog publishing platform. It was subjected to the most severe DDoS attack it ever had. People from the company are sure that the attack was “politically motivated.”
The scale of the attack was so huge that it seriously affected 3 datacenters located in different American cities.  The attack was neutralized but the risk of its repetition remained. Matt Mullenweg told it in his interview to TechCrunch.
About  30 million websites built on the WordPress platform were affected including TechCrunch, CBS, CNN,  and others. Websites powered by WordPress make actually about 10 percent of the sites in the whole world.
It is not clear yet who is behind it but the fact that this is non-English blog. Taking into account a large number of them, this piece of news can be of little help.  As political protests occur now everywhere and in virtual space as well, this reason is regarded as the most obvious cause.
Actually, WordPress.com became the target of DDoS attack together with a number of other websites.  South Korean government proclaimed a cyber security alert saying about the sites of different countries, which suffered from it, comprising the websites of the governments in 29 countries.

Apple Corporation discontinues MobileMe sales, but it was promised by the company that massive data centre will be launched in the nearest future and it will be cloud-based then.
In accordance with rumors, Apple ceased sales of MobileMe at retail and put the software away from the web store, and that means that the service is going to be updated soon. But you can still find the free trial of MobileMe.
Besides, Apple Insider many times reported about the start of data centre in North Carolina. The event is going to take place in spring. The expenses were estimated to be one billion dollars and it is 5 times bigger than the similar facility in California. The most essential thing is the fact that it will sustain MobileMe and iTunes too. This information was voiced by the Apple representative during the meeting with shareholders.
But the news fueled further discussions concerning the integration of these two services thus creating cloud-computer service.
