Visa acquires payment platform PlaySpan and pays $190 million for it

Visa, is the bigVisa acquires payment platform PlaySpan and pays $190 million for itgest credit and debit card companies of the world informs about the purchase of digital goods monetization service PlaySpan.

The amount paid for the purchase is $190 million.Last year Visa paid $2 billion for CyberSource, which is also e-payment company. The press release of the company asserts that Visa will expand its “capabilities into one of the fastest-growing segments of eCommerce – digital and mobile commerce”.PlaySpan, provides 85 various payment methods throughout the world (180+ countries).

It lets publishers and web developers to sell virtual products and services over the web, such as games, mobile applications and social networks. Besides, the e-commerce company provides a pre-paid credit card for digital goods, called Ultimate Game Card. This card can be acquired at over 50,000 retail outlets in the USA. It is regarded to be one of the most widely spread cards of this type.

 

In October, the deal was concluded between Facebook and PlaySpan, which lets using UltimatePay service to give the users of the social network an opportunity to buy Facebook Credits in 20 supplementary ways. It is worth saying that there are 200-plus games on the website and Facebook Credits can be used there.E-commerce sales volume reached the point of over $43 billion during the 4th quarter of the 2010.

On “Cyber Monday” 1 billion dollars volume was achieved! Comscore reported about 11 %  increase in comparison with the data in 2009.Visa announced that e-commerce transactions topped $989 billion last year.
