A European Commission research made the conclusion that Web filters are able to block well individual websites, but as far as filtering social networking is concerned they can’t state the same thing.

The same problem is referred to gaming consoles and mobile phones. It is time for parents to worry over it because a little part of all products released and aimed at protection can serve you well. The technology doesn’t do well when there is a need to filter Web 2.0 content. Not many programs are able to protect mobiles, game consoles and other portable devices and this is the usual way for 30% of all kids to be connected to the Internet in Europe.

When 26 programs were studied, which are referred to parental control tools for computers, three parental tools for console game systems, two parental control tools for mobile phones, the experts discovered that the programs filtered adult web content mainly, but still in many cases there were possibilities for malicious websites to pass through the filters and cause self-harm.

Only several tools could do a good job when they filtered forums, blogs and social networking resources in addition to services that provide instant messages.

The study also revealed that 70% of parents discuss with children their online activities, and about 28% filter sites easily reached to children, about 24 % monitor the websites children have access to.

With big differences in various locations of Europe (Romania results, for instance, with UK results) all in all, the half of all parents worried over activities and behavior of their children in the Internet.
