Android Phones are Sold Like Hotcakes
Sunday, 12 December 2010 21:38

One of the Android developandroid-developersers published that over 300,000 phones based on Android OS are activated every day. That means that over 9 million of such phones a month are activated.

The tablets activation was not counted at that. In case their number is counted too the figure is much bigger.

Steve Jobs denied Google's estimations in September, when the company proclaimed that it activated about 200,000 phones daily, saying that Apple activates over 230,000 Andriod devices every day. Jobs stated a month later that Apple activated 270,000 Andriod devices each day, but sometimes there can be peaks when about 300,000 iOS are activated.

The rivalry between different companies continued when Nokia stated in autumn that about 260,000 phones of its phones are activated per day, though nothing was mentioned about the devices which entered this figure. Did they count just smartphones? Was it a total of phones and smartphones? The details remain unknown.

Apple in its turn counts iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads, which all employ iOS. When there is upgrade of software this is not counted as well, while Google does not point out if the ungrades are included mentioning that they count only smartphones. (This is what Jobs suggested in September).

Nevertheless, there is something that can’t be denied: no matter how you count it Android is becoming strong and it is the second popular mobile OS all over the globe. The first place is taken by Nokia Symbian mobile operational system.
