Amazon increases royalty for authors and publishers
Wednesday, 20 October 2010 13:41

Authors and pubamazon-logolishers of United Kingdom have a possibility from now on to obtain a 70 % royalty from their ebooks sold with assistance of Kindle Digital Text Platform of Amazon.co.uk.

Amazon.co.uk informs that 368Kb ebook, for instance, has £0.04 of delivery costs, therefore the authors and publishers are going to earn £4.17 from a book which costs £5.99, while according to the standard royalty rules authors made about £2.10 for the same book.

The news was announced in January first, and then this opportunity was granted to authors and publishers of the United States since the beginning of summer. In order to qualify for it you have to meet the number of requirements: the price of the books should be from £1.49 to £6.99. The price of the books must be 1/5 lower than the price of the same printed book, and must be sold in different countries. Besides, the book should have a text-to-speech version.

When this news was announced to American authors David Kaplan wrote that this alternative reverses absolutely the regular 70% take of Amazon and this would soften the complaints of publishers who did not like the Amazon model of revenue share. This pricing plan is much better for them.

In connection with this Amazon is ready to defend itself from possible threat coming from Apple.
