An interview of Khosla was conducted at the Always On Going Green conference. During the interview, he promoted the ideas of taking large bets on the potential changing game organizations.

Although, Khosla was involved in the green technology investments for his concern for the environment, he mentioned that the environmentalists create a barrier for green technologies due to their assumption that individuals must spend larger amounts on cleaner alternate methods. According to Khosla, although the environmentalists are aware of the problems, they are clueless when it comes to the point of providing technical solutions to alleviate the problems.

In addition, he said that investing in green techniques cannot overrule to underlying Economic condition, which states the people opt for the cheapest alternative. According to him, an idea that plans to market costlier products is not preferred.

Khosla has been in the limelight for his complaints stating that Prius hybrid is not a good option because globally, it will be affordable only by a minute percentage of the population. Although, some residents in Germany and San Francisco would willingly spend a bigger amount on green solutions. However, growth will not be possible if the company is unable to match the Chinese rates or provide the products at a rate that is affordable by the citizens of India and China.

Khosla’s organization has raised over one billion dollars for investing in clean technology products, which include LED lights, solar energy solutions, and technologies using batteries. In addition, his company will invest in infrastructure products, which include less polluting steels, glass, and cements. He expects that most of the investments will have a price for carbon emissions to make them economically viable.

The primary investment philosophy adopted by Khosla is that an investment is worthless until there exists an opportunity of attaining a technical innovation in comparison to an incremental enhancement.

He said that to garner such huge possibilities in technical innovations requires entrepreneurial individuals who have a different vision. One of his investments includes one million dollars in Kior, which is making petro-fuels replacement products from woods that when founded was utilizing the industry’s focus on ethanol.

One more example cited by Khosla was Apple, which according to him has succeeded because of the vision and passions demonstrated by Steve Jobs. He mentioned that the success of the iPhone was excellent because breaking the conventional beliefs on the appearance of the smart phones, Jobs followed his vision on its appearance.

Khosla ended the interview by stating that irrespective whether the modification is social or entails development of the next version of iPhone or iPad, the bottom-line is to stretch beyond the conventional and demonstrate a passion for your vision.
