Thursday, 08 September 2011 06:36

Apple releApple releases iOS 5ased another beta version of the iOS5 software. This is the sixth version since the company released the first test version in June.

Boy Genius Report posted a complete log on the changes, which seem to primarily include fixing bugs with some small additions to the interface builder, and the tools provided to developers to develop their applications. The BGR additionally states that dissimilar to the previous beta version, this new version does not need developers to complete a clean wipe of testing devices before installation.

The company plans to release the new iOS5 free for the users in the fall. Generally, Apple provides the beta versions of its bigger programs to developers in advance. This enables the company to identify any bugs while providing adequate time for developers to integrate the additional features and APIs to their applications. Until now, the company has been releasing an updated version of this software at a two-week interval.

• iOS 5 beta 1 on 6/6

• iOS 5 beta 2 on 6/24

• iOS 5 beta 3 on 7/11

• iOS 5 beta 4 on 7/22

• iOS 5 beta 5 on 8/6

A point to be noted is that this beta version is released two days after the apparent release date included in the code of the prior developer build version.

The latest version of the program completely overhauls the notification system along with a new messaging application known as iMessage. This enables the users of the iOS to text and chat amongst each other at no charges. In addition, the application is synchronized with the company’s iCloud services, which is usable for transferring photographs, programs, and other setting between iOS devices. Additionally, it will serve as an alternative free backup system.

The company also releases a new developer build version of iWork for the iOS, which includes links to its forthcoming iCloud services. In addition, Apple provided upgraded beta versions for iTunes 10.5, its TV software, and a new developer preview of the Xcode 4.2.

According to TechCrunch, the new version marks the end of the Unique Device Identifiers, also known as UDIS. These identification methods are similar to serial numbers and are used to provide an identity to the specific device irrespective of the user. These were used by third-party advertisers and analytics for their requirements. Depending on the application, the beta version of iOS 5 encourages users to create their own unique identifiers.
