Australian teenager hacked Twitter
Sunday, 26 September 2010 17:48

17-year-oltwitterd Pearce Delphin from Australia found the security flaw on Twitter, and Twitter users were redirected to porn websites not expecting anything of the kind. It was done by Australian teenager for no particular purpose, just to show that such thing is possible.

He wanted people to see how it could be done. Delphin tweeted JavaScript code, activating pop-up window. Hackers used this idea, creating poisonous tweets and redirecting Tweeter users to pornographic resources.

The high profile users’ accounts of Twitter were damaged with malicious warm. One of them belongs to Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah Brown. The teenager was quickly traced and he said that the idea initially was borrowed from his friend, who used the code to make the tweets look in different colors of a rainbow.

When young hacker posted the tweet, he did not expect that it would have such an outcome. Being surprised about quick spread of the malicious code around the world, he apologized for the malicious code he tweeted while Twitter had to make excuses for the flaw. It was reported that the bug had been fixed already. Twitter refused to press charges against the teenager and didn’t suspend his account as well. The incident is not investigated by the police.
