American Government preferred Google
Wednesday, 08 December 2010 21:55

The report from Google sgoogle_logoaid that GSA of United States made the decision to move employees to Web apps hosted by Google.

General Services Administration is moving 17,000 employees which are located in 17 places in different parts of the world. The transition process will be administered by the partner of Google Unisys and will take place in 2011.

This is certainly a big promotion for Google. It is worth mentioning that in November Google sued the government for the preference of Microsoft software instead of other solutions as well as Google software. A 5 year contract for the sum of 6.6 million dollars will provide a range of services for the government comprising e-mail, a range of tools for collaboration to make mobile work easier.

The cloud based system is going to be used by the government and this will save the half of the budget in comparison with the system that is presently used.

This decision disappointed Microsoft a lot. The blog entry said that Microsoft does not understand the criteria that made GSA make this decision. It was also mentioned there that local governments throughout the country select mainly Microsoft. The range of companies were pointed, who say that Google is not able to answer their requirements.
