Dell Inspiron Duo Review
Saturday, 18 December 2010 23:05

The Dell Inspiron Duo a netbook convertible tablet features a flip hinge, which is smartly designed, and is able to hide a keyboard, runs on an Intel Atom processor and Windows 7 operating system.

And though the design is great and innovative the experts say that the performance still misses.

The design is simple but smart. There are 4 hinges which connect the halves of the device: 2 of them are side-mounted and 2 below the 10 inches screen. They close or open the lid of the device. With the help of side-mounted hinges you can flip the gadget vertically. Only one flip is required to snap the screen clockwise to a tablet mode and when you turn it counter clockwise to a netbook mode. The design is very attractive and lid is like a picture frame. There are three color options: black, blue and red.

Its weight is 2.9 lbs and it comes with a little battery.

The Dell Inspiron Duo employs a 1,366-by-768 resolution compared to other netbooks. A glass layer on the scree contributes to aesthetic look with glare. The keyboard is a bit undersized but the similar ones are found in other netbooks. Besides, this can be compensated by nice touchpad and mouse button.

The Dell Inspiron Duo works worse as it is turned into tablet mode. Windows 7 it uses needs update. There are many things which are not present in Windows 7, there is no virtual keyboard, therefore it can be hard to type in even URL. On the other hand the operating system is completely developed and you do not have to acquire additional applications to use it.

There are 2 USB ports in addition to an audio jack in the Inspiron Duo. There are not so many ports for aesthetic reasons, but it was done at the expense of functionality. If you do not use some modem via USB port, Wi-Fi will be your only means of Internet connection.

But there is a possibility to have access to wider range of features if you acquire the device with the JBL Docking Station, but it costs additional $100. It is produced exceptionally for the Duo. When Duo is docked, you can use the tablet as a digital photo frame or an alarm clock.

It also has 2 USB ports, Ethernet, the card reader, the headphones jack, but it is possible to use them in the tablet mode only, therefore you will need and external mouse and a keyboard for it.

The weakest side of the device is a short battery life. It works for about 3 hours only so you will need an additional battery to work longer so it is not a road device.
